Vintage Shirt Quilt

****Another lost and deleted post that I thought was worth re-posting!

So. This quilt started with a bundle of vintage blocks and leftover fabrics I purchased from my friend, Linda. I opened the box, peered in, and saw this:

Exciting, right? Maybe not for most people, but for me, YES! There were several finished Log Cabin blocks, plus a bunch of extra fabric. I’m thinking these were cutaways from a shirt factory maybe?

So, I started by pressing the blocks, and then selecting and pressing some of the fabrics and just diving in. I happened to have a Moda Bella Solid in the color ‘Porcelain’. What are the odds that this is the exact same shade of white in the log cabin blocks? So I started playing around, not really having a direction and made some 4 patches, half square triangles, etc.

I happened to have the Strippy Star Tool from Creative Grids, which I had never tried…..(surely I’m not the only one who buys a ruler then forgets to actually use it?) Anyway, decided there was not time like the present! Before long, a quilt top was created!!

It was so much fun to do, that I actually made another one, same number of blocks, different fabrics and different layout. Not sure which I like better! Probably the blue and white one….I have a soft spot for vintage finds!

Here is a pattern, I hope you have fun with it!!

Enjoy!

xoxo
